Professor Dr. med.
Felix Mottaghy

The doctor's specialisation

  • thyroid diagnostics;
  • bone scintigraphy;
  • myocardial scintigraphy;
  • sentinel lymph node scintigraphy;
  • renal scintigraphy;
  • other scintigraphic examinations and forms of radioisotope therapy;
  • treatment of thyroid cancer with the isotope 131I;
  • in vitro diagnostics: radioimmunology.

Range of diagnostic and therapeutic services:

  • radioactive iodine therapy for patients with thyroid disease, treatment of thyroid cancer;
  • diagnosis of heart disease. Myocardial scintigraphy — a painless and informative method of examining the heart muscle;
  • diagnosis of the malignant tumour that develops from the mucosa and glands of the bronchi and lung tissue — lung cancer (bronchogenic carcinoma) — using positron emission tomography (PET);
  • early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer (ductal carcinoma of the breast);
    biopsy of the sentinel lymph node closest to the tumour, the so-called sentinel biopsy;
  • diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer (prostate carcinoma): adenocarcinoma of the prostate is one of the most common forms of cancer in men over 50. Radionuclide bone scanning (scintigraphy) is an integral part of the diagnostic methods used to establish the clinical stage of prostate cancer, plays an important role in monitoring the response to hormone and chemotherapy, and makes it possible to plan the extent of palliative radiotherapy. Since 2018 the clinic has been successfully using the latest hormone therapy for symptomatic prostate cancer with the unique drug Xofigo (Alpharadin). This effective agent makes it possible to increase survival rates and significantly improve the quality of life of many of our patients.
    ruling out bone metastases by means of PET diagnostics;
  • 68Ga-PSMA PET-CT in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
  • 18F-choline PET in the diagnosis of recurrent lymph node metastases;
  • Lu-177-PSMA therapy. In the case of metastases outside bone tissue — peptide receptor radionuclide treatment targeting PSMA (PROSTATE-SPECIFIC MEMBRANE ANTIGEN), in which the radiating agent is the isotope lutetium (Lu-177);
  • radionuclide therapy with samarium 153Sm for metastatic bone lesions;
  • treatment of neuroendocrine gastroenteropancreatic tumours (GEP-NEN/GEP-NET) is carried out together with the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO). Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-DOTATATE, as well as with Sandostatin® or Somatuline Autogel®. PET diagnostics using the 68Ga-DOTATOC tracer;
  • selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) — radioembolisation of the liver is an effective treatment for liver metastases in which a measured dose of radiation is delivered directly to the tumour by radioactive microspheres containing yttrium-90 (90Y) that are carried to the affected part of the liver;
  • use of the 18F-FDG PET/CT examination method for malignant melanoma (black skin cancer);
  • brain tumours (gliomas and glioblastomas);
    imaging of brain tumours by PET-CT with the tracer F18-FET/18F-Fluor-Ethyl-Tyrosin (FET).
