Professor Dr. med. M. Tingart (Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Markus Tingart) held the position of Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University Hospital Aachen, part of RWTH Aachen University, from 2010 to 2021.
Prof. Tingart currently works at his own private outpatient clinic in Aachen.
Prof. Tingart's main areas of specialisation are: minimally invasive and arthroscopic orthopaedic surgery, primary and revision joint replacement, sports orthopaedics, manual therapy, physical therapy and balneology, traumatology, and the surgical treatment of rheumatic diseases. Under Prof. Tingart's leadership, the Department of Orthopaedics also runs a Centre for Second Expert Opinion in joint replacement.

Professor Markus Tingart is a member of the Association of German-speaking Arthroscopy Specialists (AGA), the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), the German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (DGOOC), the German Association for the Treatment of Foot and Ankle Disorders (DAF), the AK 16 working group (computer-assisted surgery) of the German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery, the Association for Computer-Assisted Surgery (AGROP), the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU), and the Association for Joint Replacement.

Prof. M. Tingart is a reviewer for the journals Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, Rheumatology, Der Orthopäde, Zeitschrift für Orthopädie und ihre Grenzgebiete, Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Aktuelle Rheumatologie, Orthopaedics, American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Journal of Anatomy.

Prof. M. Tingart is an expert for the German Research Foundation and, since 2007, an expert for the German Congresses of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, as well as an examiner for the state board examinations in orthopaedics and traumatology of the Medical Chamber of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Prof. Tingart's research interests include: the development of minimally invasive techniques for hip and knee replacement, gene expression and the microarchitecture of trabecular bone in avascular necrosis of the hip, the pathogenesis of avascular necrosis, and the use of stem cells in cartilage replacement, including autologous chondrocyte implantation using the matrix-induced autologous chondrogenesis technique.

Professor Tingart is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific papers published in specialist international journals. He has received the F. Gluck Prize for research in joint replacement from the German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (DGOOC), a prize from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the A. Hoffa Prize of the North German Orthopaedic Society and many other awards.

Since 2013, Prof. M. Tingart's name has been included every year in the list of the best German specialists in the treatment of the spine and of the shoulder, hip and ankle joints, compiled by the respected magazine «Focus» in the category «Bone and Joint Diseases».
