The Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Phlebology Center in Aachen cares for patients with acute and chronic vascular diseases. The Clinic for Vascular Surgery is a vascular surgery center certified by the German Society for Vascular Surgery (DGG).

The clinic's inpatient department has 52 beds. Each year it treats 4,500 outpatients and 1,500 inpatients. The clinic is structurally linked to the renowned Luisenhospital (Queen Louise Hospital) in Aachen, which houses the vascular surgery inpatient unit. Around 2,000 operations are performed at the clinic each year.
To optimize its diagnostic and therapeutic services, the Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Phlebology Center in Aachen works together with the radiologists, neurologists, nephrologists and diabetologists of the Luisenhospital.

  • specialist consultations for peripheral arterial occlusive disease, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, the need for bypass surgery, surgical treatment of varicose veins, lymphedema and chronic wounds;
  • invasive and non-invasive imaging techniques: CT, CT angiography, NMR spectroscopy, MR angiography, digital subtraction angiography, CO2 (gas) angiography, phlebography;
  • surgery and endovascular angioplasty with stenting for carotid artery stenosis, including neuromonitoring;
  • open and endovascular surgery of the aortic arch and the thoracic and abdominal aorta, including fenestrated and branched stent grafts;
  • surgery and stenting for aneurysms or stenoses of the intestinal and renal vessels;
  • conservative, interventional and surgical treatment (bypass down to the lower leg/foot, endarterectomy, etc.) for circulatory disorders of the upper and lower limbs and for diabetic foot syndrome;

  • surgical treatment of vascular compression syndromes, for example thoracic outlet syndrome and popliteal artery entrapment syndrome;
  • surgical shunt procedures, including access for dialysis;
  • intraoperative quality assurance using duplex sonography and angiography;
  • classic and modern endovascular surgical techniques for varicose veins (stripping, CHIVA therapy, laser and radiofrequency ablation of the truncal veins), sclerotherapy;
  • conservative, interventional and surgical treatment of venous thrombosis of the lower limbs and pelvis;
  • spinal cord stimulation and stem cell transplantation in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease;
  • an interdisciplinary wound care center specializing in the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome;
  • implantation of single- and multi-chamber pacemakers and defibrillators;
  • adjunctive conservative therapy: CT-guided sympatholysis, infusion therapy and individually tailored walking exercise for peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
