Paediatrics in Germany
Departments and hospitals of paediatrics and adolescent medicine offer the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services on an inpatient and outpatient basis, through their polyclinic units and in emergency care.
Paediatric hospitals care for children with congenital and acquired diseases of the liver and the digestive tract (including digestive disorders, acute and chronic intestinal diseases, metabolic disorders, liver inflammation/hepatitis, etc.); they offer diagnostics and treatment for all congenital and acquired disorders of the hormonal system (including thyroid diseases, growth disorders, sex hormone imbalances, diabetes mellitus, Prader-Willi syndrome and adrenal diseases such as adrenogenital syndrome), as well as for rheumatological and infectious diseases. In addition to the conditions listed above, departments and hospitals of paediatrics and adolescent medicine also treat children and adolescents with rare diseases. German paediatric hospitals care for children with any congenital, genetically determined or acquired disease of the kidneys, urinary tract and bladder; they treat kidney malformations, inflammatory kidney diseases, glomerulopathies and nephroses, as well as chronic renal failure and arterial hypertension.
