Professor Dr. med. Ulf Peter Neumann
Director and Head Physician of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at University Hospital Aachen.
After graduating from the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt Free University in Berlin in 1992 and receiving his provisional licence to practise medicine in 1993, Dr U. P. Neumann completed his residency under Prof. P. Neuhaus as a research fellow at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery of the Charité University Hospital in Berlin. In 1998 Dr Neumann defended his doctoral thesis, "The role of nitric oxide in human liver transplantation", at the Free University of Berlin. In 1999-2000 he held the post of research fellow at the Department of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery of the Charité University Hospital (Campus Virchow).
In September 2000 Dr Neumann qualified as a specialist in surgery. In March 2003 he obtained his teaching qualification (Habilitation) in surgery at the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
In 2003 Dr Ulf Peter Neumann defended his postdoctoral thesis on "Studies of the efficacy of CTLA-4Ig therapy combined with adoptive cell transfer for the prevention of rejection in a rat orthotopic liver transplantation model»
From June 2002 Dr Neumann worked as a senior consultant at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery of the Charité University Hospital (Campus Virchow), and from 2006 — as Deputy Head Physician of that department.
Since 2006 Professor Neumann has held the post of Head Physician and Medical Director of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at University Hospital Aachen.
From 2013 to the present day Prof. Neumann has been included every year in the ranking of the leading specialists in visceral surgery and in gallbladder and bile duct surgery, according to the respected magazine Focus.
The department he heads is likewise ranked year after year among the best medical institutions for visceral and thoracic surgery and for transplantation medicine by the magazine Focus.
