University Hospital Bonn
University Hospital Bonn | a medical and clinical complex at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn – a multidisciplinary medical institution of the so-called «maximum care level», bringing together 32 clinical departments. The University Hospital employs a staff of more than 6,000, of whom 981 are doctors and 5,612 nursing staff.
The international reputation of University Hospital Bonn is linked to its Centre for Neurology and Epileptology, opened in 1979, which comprises the inpatient and outpatient departments of neurosurgery, psychiatry and the treatment of psychosomatic disorders. Since 1990 the Centre has been headed by Professor Christian E. Elger, MD | Prof. Dr. med. Christian E. Elger (FRCP) – president of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Diagnostic Neuroimaging, chairman of the German chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy, speaker of an interregional research consortium, managing editor of the international journals «Epilepsy & Behavior» and «Brain», winner of numerous international and national awards in epileptology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.
The hospital successfully performs both surgical and drug treatment of epilepsy, as well as epileptological diagnostics that include computer-assisted radiological and electrophysiological investigations and invasive diagnostics using depth electrodes and electrocorticography.
The interdisciplinary Center for Integrated Oncology Cologne/Bonn – Centrum für Integrierte Onkologie Köln Bonn – based at University Hospital Bonn is also known far beyond Germany | its director is Professor Ingo Schmidt-Wolf, MD | Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Ingo Schmidt-Wolf. Since 2008 the Centre has ranked among Germany's leading oncology clinics and unites specialists from the University Hospitals of Cologne and Bonn.
The Centre for Gynaecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Bonn brings together the departments of reproductive medicine and gynaecological endocrinology, perinatal medicine, gynaecology and gynaecological oncology, as well as the units of gynaecological psychosomatics and plastic and aesthetic surgery.
