Well-known departments of the hospital:

  1. Department of Transplant Medicine | Klinik für Transplantationsmedizin, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Hartmut Schmidt. It treats patients with diseases of the liver, the pancreas and/or the small intestine. Its main areas of clinical specialisation are  genetic diagnostics, the treatment of liver and metabolic diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma and bile duct cancer, liver transplantation and cell therapy.
  2. Centre for Reproductive Medicine |Kinderwunschzentrum Münster, headed by Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Andreas Schüring).
  3. Department of Cardiac Surgery | Klinik für Herzchirurgie, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Sven Martens. The centre specialises in minimally invasive cardiac surgery performed without a heart-lung machine, which means less surgical trauma, a shorter postoperative recovery period and a minimal number of complications.
  4. Department of Neurosurgery | Klinik für Neurochirurgie, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Walter Stummer. All types of neurosurgical operations are performed here, including procedures that use electronic digital navigation systems and innovative surgical techniques. The department's leading areas of specialisation are the treatment of brain and spinal cord tumours and of neurovascular diseases, paediatric neurosurgery, pituitary surgery, functional stereotaxy and stereotactic radiotherapy, the treatment of gliomas (glioblastomas, anaplastic gliomas, early-stage gliomas) and of malformations (aneurysms, angiomas, cavernomas), as well as of arteriovenous fistulas of the dura mater and the cerebral cortex. Minimally invasive methods are used with great success, in particular endovascular catheterisation and vascular stenting to stabilise the vessels.
  5. Department of Haematology, Haemostaseology, Oncology and Pneumology | Medizinische Klinik A Hämatologie, Hämostaseologie, Onkologie und Pneumologie, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang E.
